This is one of my favorites. Cocuswood with tall nickel ferrules and ivory mounts. Note the ivory at the ends of the ferrules. These would be threaded and inserted after the ferrules were put in place. The owner wanted the old binding removed and new external whipping put in place. Braided nylon was tightly wound over the combing. It’s the least intrusive way of binding a crack. I’ve included a couple pictures of the original binding.
Obviously old Edinburgh with no other clue as to the maker. Note the detail of the turning where the wood faces the ivory mounts.
