John died in 1879 and his son David continued making bagpipes until his death in 1916. David’s bagpipes are stamped “D. Thow Dundee”. As with any company spanning 100 years, changes took place without being documented, so it is a challenge to attribute a bagpipe to a particular Thow maker or date of manufacture. The best we can do, without the presence of a stamp, is to add up specific clues and make an educated determination.
