Donald MacPhedran was an excellent piper and composer. He will perhaps be best remembered as the composer or arranger of such classic tunes as The Sheepwife, Maggie Cameron, The Devil in the Kitchen, The Earl of Mansfield, and a host of other tunes that remain popular today.
He did not appear as a maker of bagpipes until 1884, listed along with Peter Henderson, Robert MacKinnon, Alexander MacArthur, and a Mrs. A. Brown, whom I know nothing of. The others may be found elsewhere in this museum.
The bagpipe is believed to have been made by MacPhedran, as evidenced by the stamp on the silver cap below. One thing worth noting is that the combing stands quite a bit taller than the beading. This is not typical of most makers and may well be the result of aggressive restoration.
