For the longest time these pictures were “unknown #63” until Yann Le Lan wrote me about Hervé Le Menn 1899 – 1973 – “The style of this bagpipe was influenced by a revival movement for breton culture called “Seiz Breur” (seven brothers) which is still very inspiring for breton artists. Le Menn’s main challenger was Dorig Le Voyer who also took a great part in that revival and even more so. Le Menn and Le Voyer “copied” GHB from few sets imported from Scotland. Le Voyer called his “GHB” biniou braz (great bagpipes) in opposition to biniou kozh (old biniou). The chanters were made for an open fingering.”
Many thanks, Yann.
