Of course the projecting mounts don't look "right". My contention is that someone in their great wisdom decided they wanted projecting mounts rather than what appears to have been the original mount. I took the pictures into Photoshop and, although my skills aren't that great, I think I came away with a pretty good idea of what this bagpipe originally looked like. (see pictures at the right). Very interesting, eh? Without the absolutely hideous projecting mounts, it's obvious that this instrument is from the very early 1800's, perhaps the work of Donald MacDonald or maybe Hugh Robertson.
