R. G. Lawrie Misc.
RG Lawrie wasn't one for stamping his bagpipe, other than the chanter. The one exception that I've found was a very faint "R.G.Lawrie, Glasgow" stamp on a bass mid-section. There are varying accounts of when Lawrie incorporated "REGAL" into the Lawrie stamp. Many maintain it was connected to the award of a Royal Warrant around 1930. In the course of updating the museum, I came across the invoice below dated 1917. Those who speculated that is was simply a play-off of "RGL", Lawrie's initials may have been correct. Other interesting stamps included "Glasgow, Edinburgh, London" which may have been at the request of retailers in those locals. The earliest Lawrie chanters will have a tulip-shaped bulb and will most probably be made of cocuswood.
A few examples of Lawrie products and packaging. The shield is an amazing artifact.
